Fishing

Fishing is a way of life on the islands, and Situ has an incredible array of species to target. There are deep drop offs, coral reefs, tidal sandbars and warm Indian Ocean currents offshore which harbour some incredible habitats for a vast array of fish species.

How It Works

With a choice of boats available, chartering one of these for the day will give you the opportunity of targeting some of the Indian Ocean’s prized pelagic species. The Situ Island boats are rigged for fishing and have a complement of Shimano 30, 50 and 80lb outfits available for our guests use. We do not provide any terminal tackle, flyfishing, vertical jigging or spinning and plugging gear, so please take your own. Please contact us for a suggested terminal tackle list to take along with you.

Situ Island can cater for the experienced and dedicated anglers as well as those who might just want to drop a line in the ocean. Please feel free to contact us so we can help you plan your fishing adventure to the Quirimbas.

What to expect
  • As soon as you are offshore from Situ Island you will experience some of the most unexplored game fishing waters in the world. Black, Blue and Striped Marlin, Broadbill Swordfish, Sailfish and the occasional Shortbill Spearfish comprise the targeted Billfish species. Dogtooth and Yellowfin Tuna, King Mackerel (Couta), Giant Trevally and other Kingfish species, Wahoo, Dorado, Baracuda, Amberjack, Tropical Yellowtail, Rainbow Runner, and a number of Bonito and other baitfish species are found throughout the year.
  • For those wishing to explore the sandbars and Mangroves around the island, there are areas to target Mangrove Snapper, GT’s and other Kingfish species, Barracuda, Pompano, Ox Eye tarpon and sometimes even Bonefish moving over the vast sandbars.
  • Out at sea one can experience close encounters with Whales, Manta Rays, Turtles and Dolphins.
  • Please discuss your angling needs with the skipper the night before departure so the crew can plan your day and ensure you enjoy yourself out on the water.
We fully support Tag and Release and we encourage you to assist us in ensuring the sustainability of our fishery by releasing all Billfish, GT’s and Amberjack.
